The best laid plans don't always happen, so you just have to go with the flow and try to make the best of it. After carefully researching and planning, our night train from Zurich to Amsterdam was canceled due to bad weather causing damage to some tracks in Germany. If we had known sooner we could have looked at alternatives and at least traveled half way. We had hoped to have an entire extra day to explore Amsterdam instead of sitting on a train from 8AM to 5:30PM. We did manage to walk around Zurich along the river and lake. Had a beer at a beer garden and listen to some music. We got stuck in a big rainstorm and listened to the crowd cheer for the Netherlands when they won their first world cup match. Impressions of Zurich, a city, a little gritty, but some really nice side streets. The river and lake area is beautiful, lots of people enjoying the Friday afternoon warm weather prior to the downpour.

Train station in Zurich, orchestra was playing all afternoon and evening. Not sure what was going on.
The beer garden by the river, a trio was playing various music and people were dancing.
Swans everywhere on Lake Zurich
The ducks were just hanging out on this boat
A view across the river in Zurich
The side streets were charming
We decided it was time for another beer and fries, notice the tomato for nutrition!
Just as we finished eating, it started pouring rain and our umbrellas were in the suitcases in the train lockers!

At this point, we were looking for goodies for the train trip, we still did not know our train had been canceled.
Dinner on the balcony from our room, a nice rose from France and cookies. Not a day for well balanced meals.
We did have a sweet little room.
One doesn't go on holiday to have a balanced diet! We had waffles/strawberries at 5.30, omelet and fries for dinner at 7.00. €6 for a bottle of water at dinner!!!!!!
